1. History
On February 25, 1976, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army issued Decision No. 28/QD-TM provisionally stipulating the organizational structure and staffing of the Senior Military Academy consisting of 6 agencies and 16 faculties, in which, the faculties: Artillery - Missile, Engineer, Tank - Armor, Information - Electronics and Atomic Chemistry are the predecessors of the Faculty of Military Arms.
According to Decision No. 136/QD – TM dated 30/8/1983 of the General Staff, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Artillery, the Faculty of Information and the Faculty of Chemistry were merged into the Faculty of Army; Faculty of Campaign, Faculty of Tactics, Faculty of Tanks and Armors merged into Faculty of Campaign Arts.
According to Decision No. 67/QD-TM dated01/8/1985 of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, the Faculty of Military Arms was divided into 04 faculties: the Faculty of Artillery, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Chemistry and the Faculty of Information; The Faculty of Campaign Art is divided into 03 faculties: the Faculty of Campaign Art, the Faculty of Tactics, and the Faculty of Tank and Armor.
According to Decision No. 673/QD-TM dated18/7/2003 issued by Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army on the organization and staffing of the National Defense Academy, Faculty of Military Arms including 05 subjects: Artillery – Missiles, Engineers, Tanks and Armors, Communications and Chemistry.
2. Functions and Missions
The Faculty of Military Arms is one of 10 faculties in the organization and staffing system of the National Defense Academy, holding a very important position and role in performing the task of training and scientific research on military majors, of the Armed Forces for Combat and Security; such as Artillery-Missile, Tank-Armor, Engineer, Communication and Chemistry.
Functions:
- To advise and propose to the President of the Academy on organizing the implementation of training tasks according to the majors of the Armed Forces and Assurance for the students trained at the academy.
- To advise and propose to the President on the organization of the implementation of military scientific research tasks and the implementation of military scientific activities of the Faculty
- To perform other tasks, under the direct leadership and direction of the Standing Party Committee, the Academy's Board of Presidents.
Missions:
- To manage the program content and training of the Faculty according to the majors, actively research, propose and recommend to the Party Committee, the Academy's Board of Presidents on the content, teaching plan and performance.
- To manage scientific research, organize scientific conferences and seminars of the Faculty under the direction of the Board of Presidents, the Academy's Scientific Council; guiding, monitoring, inspection and evaluation of the results of the implementation of the contents, programs and plans of graduate training of the Faculty.
- To build and develop the faculty and staff of the Faculty, successfully completing the assigned tasks; building a strong and wholesome Faculty..
3. Achievements
In the process of construction and development, the Faculty has participated in many training courses on National Defense and Security fostering knowledge, command and staff, local defense, TMTC at operational-strategic, and postgraduate levels for units inside and outside the army according to the majors: Artillery-Missile, Tank-Armor, Engineer, Communication and Chemistry. Besides, the Faculty has compiled many documents, textbooks and chaired and participated in many ministerial and branch-level projects. Many times, collectives and individuals have been honored with the Academy's emulation flags, decisive victory units, advanced units, certificates of merit, certificates of merit and many other noble rewards.
